Aberdeen International airport has completed the first phase of a three-year terminal transformation project, with the opening of a new domestic arrivals facility.

The new domestic baggage reclaim belt is located within the airport’s extension building, and replaces a temporary facility which had been in use since last year.

A further two phases of the terminal transformation project will see:

  • The opening of an enlarged and improved security area, as well as a new World Duty Free retail space in 2018
  • The launch of an improved departure lounge, enhanced catering and retail facilities, and the realignment of the airside-landside boundary in 2019

Commenting on the new arrivals facility Aberdeen International airport managing director, Carol Benzie said:

“It is so exciting for us today to see the last three years of planning come into reality with this, the final element of our new extension building, open to passengers within the summer season.

“The opening of our domestic arrivals baggage reclaim has followed on from our new Northern Lights Executive Lounge, which opened earlier this month, and our International Arrivals Facilities that opened to passengers in May.”

The recently-opened lounge offers 50 per cent more space, with features including locally-inspired decor, runway views, Brewdog craft beers, Gordon Castle gins, and a feature whisky wall.
