Edinburgh airport has been affected by a power cut, delaying flight departures and passenger processing.

The airport’s Twitter page reported the power outage at around 9am, with electricity returning an hour later.

The BBC has said that the outage caused the main hall to be plunged into darkness, with only emergency lighting available.

Passengers were not able to check-in or disembark from flights that had already landed, though the power system on the airfield was not affected.

Edinburgh airport has said: “We’re beginning to process passengers. Please be patient as we work to help passengers on their journeys.” It later reported that systems were “back up and running” and that passengers can connect to the terminal by bus.

The cause of the outage is still unknown.
