TAP Portugal has introduced a new hand-baggage-only fare for long-haul flights to Brazil, Africa, Venezuela, Canada and the US.

The Discount fare – which is available for flights booked from September 1 – is one of six revamped fare options for intercontinental flights.

According to TAP “The new Discount brand is available for passengers who choose to travel only with carry-on baggage at the most competitive price”, while the Basic fare offers one piece of checked luggage (up to 23kg), the Classic option includes two pieces of luggage and pre-assigned seats, and the Plus fare offers three pieces of luggage, pre-assigned seats, priority check-in, and “flexibility in making changes to reservations”.

In business class there are two fare options – Executive, including two pieces of luggage (up to 32kg each), lounge access and priority boarding, and the fully-flexible Top Executive, offering three pieces of luggage.

The carrier said that the new fares were aimed “at providing a more tailored and convenient experience”, adding that customers “can now choose and pay only for the services required”.

More information on the benefits / restrictions applying to each fare can be seen here.

Last year TAP launched a new fare structure for its Europe and North Africa routes, which it said had reduced its lowest fares by an average of 34 per cent.
