Having looked at both Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, we turn to an overview of hotels new and coming to Singapore next.

The last few years saw a number of major arrivals, including Sofitel So Singapore (in a 1927 neoclassical building next to the Lau Pa Sat food market, with Karl Lagerfeld design elements) and the instant skyline icon Marina Bay Sands (with 2,500+ rooms across three towers and a vertigo-inducing rooftop infinity pool).

New and upcoming hotels equally cover the spectrum from smaller-scale conversions of historic buildings to vast, brand-new mixed-use complexes.

The Warehouse Hotel

The Warehouse Hotel

Starting with a conversion, it didn’t take long for Singapore to welcome its first new hotel of 2017: The Warehouse Hotel opened within the first weeks of January. It’s also the first property from The Lo & Behold Group (already behind a number of restaurants in town), transforming a 19th-century ‘godown’ (warehouse) on Robertson Quay into a 37-room hotel with a signature restaurant and lobby bar.

Raffles Singapore

Raffles Singapore

A month after, Raffles Singapore – a hotel that needs no introduction – began the first phase of its extensive renovations: February 13 saw the Long Bar, Long Bar Steakhouse, Raffles Courtyard, Ah Teng’s Bakery, the retail arcade and banqueting facilities close. A second phase from the summer will run up to the end of the year, when phase three shutters the entire hotel until a ‘grand unveiling’ in mid-2018.
