Avani Hotels and Resorts is to open its first European property later this year, with the refurbishment and rebranding of an existing hotel in Lisbon.

The former Tivoli Jardim Lisboa Hotel (owned by Avani’s parent group Minor Hotels) will become the Avani Avenida Liberdade Lisbon Hotel on April 1, following the completion of a €1.5 million renovation programme.

The city centre hotel is located off Avenida da Liberdade, and features 119 rooms, all with balconies.

The refurbishment includes the redesign of the property’s façade, guest rooms, lobby and reception, as well as the addition of an Avanifit gym. The hotel will also offer breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Mediterranean-inspired Olivier Avenida Restaurant.

The property is situated next to the Palacete Conference and Events Centre, which has three floors of events space and a capacity for up to 260 people.

The Avani brand currently comprises 17 properties across Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Seychelles, Mozambique, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia and the UAE.

Forthcoming additions include the 372-room Avani Ibn Battuta Dubai, which is scheduled to open in 2019.

Minor Hotel Group is targeting 230 properties across its Anantara, Tivoli,  Avani, Oaks and Per Aquum brands by 2021.
