South African Airways has taken delivery of the first of five new A330-300 aircraft.

Features include 46 fully-flat Premium Business class seats in a staggered 1-2-1 layout, with each seat having direct aisle access, and 203 slimline economy seats, with 10.1-inch TV screens, individual USB charging ports, and shared access to power sockets.

In-flight entertainment options include up to 100 TV programmes and movies, “,including the latest full-season series and comedy shows”, as well as 15 games, 14 radio stations and 170 music albums.

The carrier said that the interior design of the new aircraft “is upmarket and resembles the elegant surroundings of SAA’s airport lounges, where warm neutrals invite customers to feel at home”.

Commenting on the delivery SAA’s acting CEO Musa Zwane said:

“Beyond product refresh which our customers will surely enjoy, this is an important milestone for us in the context of the implementation of our Long-Term Turnaround Strategy (LTTS) we unveiled three years ago.

“The new aircraft will bring much needed efficiencies and this is expected to impact positively on the company’s bottom line.”

The remaining four A330-300s are due to be delivered by early next year. SAA has now yet revealed what routes the aircraft will feature on – the carrier currently operates a mixture of A340-300 and A330-200 aircraft on its London Heathrow-Johannesburg route.

SAA recently launched a triple miles offer for members of its Voyager loyalty scheme booking business class fares between London and Southern Africa. The promotion is valid for flights booked by tomorrow (December 9), for travel until March 31, 2017.
