NOTE

Wyndham has now (1700BST) released the following statement:

Today’s Wyndham Rewards trade up was offered in the spirit of generosity. Before the offer even began, there were obvious and significant examples of fraud. Much to our dismay and disappointment, we have to cancel this promotion.  We will, however, make a donation of 5 million Wyndham Rewards points to charity as the work they do on behalf of others is real magic.

ORIGINAL PIECE

Wyndham has taken aim at Starwood SPG members in an extraordinary  (if short-lived) offer for members of the SPG programme.

Describing the SPG programme as “the least rewarding loyalty programme” and its own as “the most rewarding”, the offer includes status match and a huge bonus of miles in the Wyndham programme.

Starwood SPG members who donate their entire balance of points to charity will see their membership status in SPG matched by Wyndham Rewards and quadruple (4x) Wyndham Rewards points.

The offer is for 12 hours from 17.00 BST on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 until 04.59 BST on Wednesday, 12 October, 2016.

Wyndham Rewards has a 15,000 points flat-fee redemption rate and no blackout dates, so Wyndham points out that donating just 3,750 Starwood points to charity will earn a free night at more than 7,800 of its hotels worldwide.

To take advantage of the offer, Starwood SPG members need to submit a screenshot showing their entire points balance has been emptied as well as screenshot confirming the entire balance of points has been donated to charity.
