Marriott International has announced plans for three new properties in Cape Town, under its Marriott Hotels, Residence Inn and AC Hotels brands.

The 200-room Cape Town Marriott Hotel Foreshore will be the first Marriott Hotels property in the city, and will be located at Harbour Arch in the Culemborg Quarter, along with the 150-room Residence Inn Cape Town Foreshore (the first Residence Inn property in South Africa).

Meanwhile the 189-room AC Hotel Cape Town Waterfront will be located at The Yacht Club within the city’s Roggebaai district, and will be the first hotel under the brand in the Middle East and Africa region.

The three new properties are a continuation of Marriott’s existing partnership with the Amdec Group, which include the development of the Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch and the Marriott Executive Apartments Johannesburg Melrose Arch. These hotels will be the first under the Marriott brand when they open in 2018.

Commenting on the news Arne Sorenson, President and CEO of Marriott International said:

“Africa is particularly important to Marriott International’s expansion strategy because of the continent’s rapid economic growth, expanding middle class and youth population, as well as the increase of international flights into the continent. With over 850 million people in sub-Saharan Africa alone, there are enormous opportunities.”

The group plans to expand its presence across the continent to 27 countries and over 200 hotels by 2025.
