Japanese airline All Nippon Airways (ANA) plans to improve its in-flight services on international routes from March 1, 2019 by introducing new onboard meal options and amenities.

As part of the enhancement plan, ANA will let passengers select their in-flight meals before departure, with more options available for selection. Now, only ANA Mileage Club members travelling in Business Class can pre-order their meals, and the choice is limited to either Japanese or international cuisine.

ANA - Business Class Japanese meal

Starting from March 1, all Business Class passengers will be able to pre-order their meals on the ANA website up to 24 hours before departure. They will be able to choose from several international cuisine options and a selection of Japanese cuisine. The choices available for pre-order may vary by route, the airline says.

In addition, Business Class travellers on flights departing from Japan to North America (except Honolulu), Europe, Southeast Asia and India will be able to select from all the available dishes from ANA’s premium “The Connisseurs” programme in collaboration with renowned chefs from all over the world. The Japanese cuisine dishware in First Class and Business Class will also be upgraded.

ANA - Paid international meal for Premium Economy & Economy Class

From this April onwards, passengers travelling in Premium Economy and Economy Class on North America (except Honolulu) and Europe routes will also get more meal choices, with additional upgraded menu items available at JPY2,500 (US$23). They will be able to select from the premium menu options up to 24 hours before departure.

Amenities upgrade

Besides improvements in dining options, ANA will also upgrade its in-flight sleepwear and amenities. Beginning from March 1, First Class travellers will get feather comforters from well-known fabric manufacturer Nishikawa Sangyo, along with a new pillow made of white duck down from Hungary, a new blanket and cardigan. Both the comforter and pillow covers are made from 100% Egyptian cotton.

ANA - Business Class amenities

Meanwhile, Business Class passengers will get feather comforters from Maruhachi Product, along with a dual-layer pillow with a 100% Egyptian cotton cover, and newly designed cardigans and pyjamas.

Also starting from 1 March, both First Class and Business Class passengers will get revamped amenity kits from London-based Globe-Trotter with selections of Japanese cosmetics. First Class kits feature The Ginza’s Essence Empowering Set of cosmetics solutions, while Business Class kits provide selections from Kose’s Sekkisei MYV. The kits will be available in several colours, and will be rotated every three to four months. They will be given to travellers in First Class on all international routes, as well as those in Business Class on North America (except Honolulu), Europe and Oceania routes.

“We want to ensure that travelers, especially on long-haul flights arrive at their destination refreshed and ready to achieve their goals, whether they are traveling for business or pleasure. We will take whatever steps are necessary to keep ANA at the forefront of comfort and convenience for international travelers,” said Yutaka Ito, executive vice president of ANA.
