Japan Airlines has begun codesharing with Iberia on the Spanish carrier’s flights between Madrid and Tokyo Narita.

The collaboration is part of a wider joint business agreement that includes Iberia, Japan Airlines, British Airways and Finnair. As part of the partnership, the four Oneworld airlines have begun selling joint fares on new services starting yesterday.

According to Japan Airlines, the new link between Madrid and Tokyo, as well as Iberia’s integration in the joint business agreement, will provide customers with greater travel options and frequent flyer benefits.

In addition, Madrid is a highly strategic connection destination for JAL, as it provides the carrier with an entryway into South America – a region that is still relatively underserved by Asian carriers.

Airlines that currently operate non-stop flights between Madrid and South America include Air China, Air Europa, Iberia and LATAM Brasil – the latter two being Oneworld members to which JAL customers can conveniently connect.
