Singapore Airlines is strengthening its codeshare partnership with fellow Star Alliance member, Turkish Airlines.

According to routesonline.com, the expansion of the partnership will see SIA place its “SQ” marketing code on a number of Turkish Airlines services to the Americas. This includes:

Istanbul Ataturk – Atlanta
Istanbul Ataturk – Miami
Istanbul Ataturk – Montreal
Istanbul Ataturk – Sao Paulo Guarulhos
Istanbul Ataturk – Toronto

The new codeshare flights are notable as it provides SIA customers with one-stop options to the aforementioned destinations. The airline’s presence in the US is currently limited to Houston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco – all of which it serves via Hong Kong, Seoul and Moscow (although the carrier will offer a non-stop A350 service to San Francisco later this year). Therefore, passengers flying to Atlanta and Miami are currently limited to two-stop flights.

In the case of Montreal, SIA does provide one-stop options to the Canadian city but the layover durations are unattractive, with the total flight times exceeding 30 hours. Meanwhile, flights to Toronto also require two stops, either via Tokyo Narita and Los Angeles or Hong Kong and San Francisco.

Finally, the carrier does operate non-stop flights between Singapore and Sao Paulo but it will be axing this in October. A one-stop option would enable SIA to continue serving the Brazil city.
