Etihad Airways has started deploying its B787-9 on the Abu Dhabi–Shanghai route.

The Dreamliner, which features a two-class configuration with 28 seats in business and 271 in economy, has replaced the A330-200 to operate the five-times weekly flights, EY862 and EY867.

Flight EY862 departs Abu Dhabi at 2225 and arrives in Shanghai at 1110 the day after. The return service on flight EY867 takes off from Shanghai at 0030, before touching back down in Abu Dhabi at 0615.

Shanghai is the seventh destination to be served by the B787-9 Dreamliner, and is one of the select destinations where business class passengers can enjoy a complimentary chauffeur service to and from their hotel. Do note that the distance has to be no more than 55km each way.

“Since launching flights between Shanghai and Abu Dhabi four years ago, we have experienced first-hand the huge growth of China’s outbound tourism market and enjoyed strong demand from both business and leisure travellers,” said Etihad Airways’s chief executive Peter Baumgartner.

“The new Boeing 787 services will help to support the increasing demand for outbound tourism from Shanghai and its surrounding cities in Eastern China. The additional capacity will enable more Chinese business and leisure travellers to enjoy seamless one-stop connections over the Abu Dhabi hub to over 40 destinations across the Gulf region, Europe, Africa and South America.”
