SIA launches IFE “Companion App”

4 Mar 2016 by BusinessTraveller
Singapore Airlines has launched a new “Companion App”, which allows passengers to control their seatback TV systems using personal devices. The new app is currently available for iOS and Android tablets, with smartphone availability from the second quarter of this year. Developed by MTT in conjunction with Panasonic Avionics, the app can be used to link personal devices with the carrier’s IFE systems using the aircraft’s in-flight wifi connection. Singapore Airlines Companion app Passengers can then use their device as a remote control to play, pause or fast forward through content. It also allows users to browse through the index of Krisworld content on their device, while at the same time watching content on the seatback screen, or to access real-time flight information without interrupting movies or TV programmes. The technology is initially being made available on SIA’s new A350 aircraft, with plans to roll it out to B777-300ERs and other aircraft “in the future”. SIA took delivery of its first A350-900 earlier this week – for a first look at the aircraft on its delivery flight from Toulouse to Singapore, click here. singaporeairlines.com Mark Caswell
