American Airlines offers up to 36,000 miles to celebrate LAX–HND launch

5 Feb 2016 by Clement Huang
Travellers flying with American Airlines (AA) on its soon-to-be launched daily, non-stop service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Tokyo Haneda (HND) stand to earn up to 36,000 miles, for travel until April 30. As previously reported, AA will launch the new service on February 11, following its acquisition of the Tokyo flight slot in June last year (see here). It will deploy a B787-8 aircraft on the route featuring a two-class configuration, with 28 seats in business and 198 in Main Cabin (economy) – of which 57 have been designated as Main Cabin Extra seats with expanded pitch. The standard mileage earn rate for the return service is 10,976 miles, with passengers in business class enjoying an extra 50 per cent accrual. However, the launch promotion provides customers with bonus miles, with the total amount depending on their individual fare class. Those that have purchased discounted economy tickets with the fare classes K, M, L, W, V, G, N and S will receive an extra 5,000 miles on top of their standard earnings, while passengers with full-fare economy tickets in the fare classes Y, B and H will receive 10,000 bonus miles. This equates to a total of 15,976 miles earned for discount economy ticket holders, and 20,976 miles for those that have full-fare economy tickets. Meanwhile, business class customers will receive 20,000 bonus miles for flying on the route. This, on top of the 16,464 earned normally (inclusive of the 50 per cent class of service bonus miles) will see those sat at the pointy end earn an attractive 36,464 miles for a return trip between LAX and HND.
