Five airline developments to look forward to in 2016

CATHAY PACIFIC WHAT TO EXPECT 2016 marks the 70th anniversary of Cathay Pacific, which first began operations in 1946. The airline’s chief executive Ivan Chu has revealed that attractive fare discounts will be offered to celebrate this milestone, so keep your eyes peeled. CX will also be taking delivery of its very first Airbus A350 aircraft earlier this year, which is expected to come with all-new seat products. cathaypacific.com   SINGAPORE AIRLINES WHAT TO EXPECT Like CX, Singapore Airlines will also be taking delivery of its first A350 later this year. According to the airline, the delivery of the new fuel-efficient aircraft will happen in the first quarter of 2016, so frequent travellers with the Star Alliance member don't have much longer to wait. The A350 is due to begin active service in April 2016, with the first destination slated to be Amsterdam. Check out this link for the full story. singaporeair.com   EMIRATES WHAT TO EXPECT Emirates will operate the world's longest non-stop flight when it launches a service to Panama City in February 2016. When flying westbound, from Dubai to Panama City, the new service will take 17 hours and 35 minutes. Panama is the Gulf carrier's first in Central America and will be served daily by a three-class B777-200LR with eight seats in first class, 42 in business and 216 in economy. Check out this link for the full story. emirates.com   MALAYSIA AIRLINES WHAT TO EXPECT Malaysia Airlines will introduce a new generation flat bed business class product on its A330-300 in April 2016. The fitting process will be quick, with the Oneworld member announcing that all 15 A330-300s are due to offer the new configuration just four months later in September 2016. Routes that will offer the new product include Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne and Sydney, and Shanghai, among others. Check out this link for the full story. malaysiaairlines.com   AMERICAN AIRLINES WHAT TO EXPECT American Airlines will become the first of the “Big Three” US carriers to offer a premium economy product. Rollout of the new product is scheduled to begin in late 2016 and will be on the B787-9 aircraft – of which the airline has 22 currently on order. The premium economy cabin on the Dreamliner will feature seats arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration. AA’s new premium economy product will feature a leather seat with 38 inches of pitch, and come with larger touchscreen monitors, noise-cancelling headphones, AC power outlets and USB ports.
