Lufthansa launches “restaurant service” in business class

3 Aug 2015 by BusinessTraveller
Lufthansa is revamping its meal service for long-haul business class passengers, introducing what it refers to as a “restaurant service”. The German carrier says that crew will now “adapt their service more strongly towards the rhythm of their passengers in order to individually respond to their guests' needs and requests just like a top-class restaurant”. This includes welcoming passengers by name, taking orders and setting tables with ceramic crockery, serving meals directly from the galley, and replacing trays and flight trolleys with service plates. The enhanced service was introduced on A380 flights to New York and Miami in June and July, and is now being rolled out across the carrier’s superjumbo routes to Houston, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, Miami, Delhi, New York (JFK), Beijing, San Francisco, Shanghai, Seoul and Singapore. The service will also be extended to B747-400 and B747-8 flights from Frankfurt on October 1, and A340 routes from Frankfurt and Munich to Asia and the Middle East from October 25. Lufthansa says that around 4,500 flight attendants have already received special training for the new service, which it says sees the carrier take “another important step towards becoming the first five-star airline in the Western hemisphere”. lufthansa.com Mark Caswell
