Etihad to deploy A380 on Abu Dhabi–New York route

5 Mar 2015 by Clement Huang
Etihad Airways will deploy its new A380 on the Abu Dhabi–New York JFK route from December 1. This follows an earlier announcement that the Gulf carrier will begin superjumbo flights to Sydney from June (see here). Etihad Airways A380 “The United States is a strategically important part of Etihad Airways’ growing global network and as a result of increased demand from our guests travelling between New York and Abu Dhabi – and onto the world, we are pleased to upgrade one of our two daily [return] flights to an A380,” said James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ president and chief executive. The A380 services will operate daily as EY103 and EY102 respectively. Please see below for the upcoming superjumbo flight schedule:

The other return service will continue to be served by the B777-300ER, which Etihad Airways currently leases from Jet Airways. This is however due to be replaced by one of the Gulf carrier’s own “Triple Seven” from August. The Residence by Etihad The A380 is a standout in Etihad Airways fleet. Unlike fellow Gulf carrier, Emirates (which operates the world’s largest fleet of superjumbos), Etihad Airways only has a total of ten on order. However, the airline has configured its A380 with industry-leading products, most notably The Residence by Etihad. Measuring 125 square feet in area, The Residence by Etihad is an ultra-luxurious three-room suite. It features a private living room, separate en-suite shower room, bedroom with a double bed, and a dedicated Savoy Academy trained Buter. The cabin itself offers a large 32-inch LCD monitor in the living room, along with a 24-inch model in the bedroom. First apartment In addition, the A380 also offers nine First apartments. Each includes a private living space with a large Poltrona Frau leather lounge chair and an ottoman – the latter which opens up to become a separate 80.5-inch long fully flat bed. A 24-inch swivelling LCD monitor and personal vanity unit help make each apartment 74 per cent larger than any of the airline’s other first class products. Business Studio A total of 70 Business Studios, set in a 1-2-1 layout, are located on the upper deck of the superjumbo. Boasting a 20 per cent increase in personal space, each seat offers direct aisle access and can be converted into a fully flat bed of up to 80.5-inch in length. Upholstered in Poltrona Frau leather, each also comes equipped with in-built seat massage and a pneumatic cushion control system. All premium customers have access to The Lobby – a serviced lounge and bar area located between the first and business class cabins. Featuring comfy leather sofas, guests can visit this area to enjoy refreshments or the large TV with USB connection. Economy class Finally, the A380 also consists of 415 seats in economy. Located in the main deck, each offers enhanced comfort with unique, ergonomic “fixed wing” headrests, lumbar support and an 11.1-inch personal TV monitor.
