Etihad Guest adds “Wallet Plus” feature

9 Feb 2015 by Clement Huang
Etihad Airways’ loyalty program Etihad Guest is introducing a new payment feature – Wallet Plus – to its membership card. The new addition, powered by credit card company Visa, allows members to load money onto their Etihad Guest card and convert it to 11 foreign currencies for spending abroad. Along with the UAE Dirham, which must be one of the currencies on the card, Wallet Plus also supports the Australian Dollar, US Dollar, Pound Sterling, Euro, Indian Rupee, Canadian Dollar, Singapore Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Japanese Yen and Thai Baht. Members can earn one Etihad Guest Mile per US$2 spent in the UAE, and one Etihad Guest Mile per US$1 spent abroad when paying with Walletplus. A particularly useful feature is that the travel money can be loaded into the membership card in advance, thereby enabling members to manage their travel budgets in advance, and lock in competitive exchange rates in real time. Pre-loading the card also means that members can immediately spend in the local currency upon arrival in another country, without having to first exchange or transfer funds at a bank or foreign exchange. Yasser Al Yousuf, Managing Director, Etihad Guest LLC, said: “The Etihad Guest loyalty program focusses on providing features and benefits that enhance value to its members. The new Etihad Guest Card with Wallet Plus is innovative in that it combines the functionality of a reloadable payment card with the benefits of Etihad Guest membership in a single piece of plastic, a first in loyalty and travel payments in the Middle East.” For more information, visit etihad.com Clement Huang
