Dividend Miles to integrate into AAdvantage next year

7 Nov 2014 by GrahamSmith
US Airways' Dividend Miles loyalty programme will become part of American Airlines' AAdvantage programme next year. The integrated AAdvantage frequent flyer programme will combine mileage balances and align elite levels and qualification criteria. First, in early 2015, members with both a Dividend Miles and AAdvantage account will be able to match their accounts. There will be no change for those with just AAdvantage membership. However, those with just a Dividends Miles account will be assigned a new AAdvantage number and their miles and status will be transferred when the programmes are combined. On March 1, each member's elite status will be determined based on "elite-qualifying activity in each programme individually". There will still be four levels for Dividend Miles Preferred members until the programmes combine. In the second quarter, the Divident Miles programme will be integrated into AAdvantage with three elite levels. Each member's "mileage balance, elite-qualifying activity and million mile balance will be moved into a new AAdvantage account or merged into your existing AAdvantage account". At this point, AAnytime awards will be available for travel on US Airways. For much of next year, American and US Airways will operate as two separate airlines, but with one loyalty programme. Once the merger has completed, AAdvantage will "move to one policy for elite upgrades for all flights". Suzanne Rubin, president of AAdvantage, said: "We couldn't be more excited to welcome Dividend Miles members into the AAdvantage program next year. "AAdvantage is the original frequent flyer programme and is consistently recognised as best in class because it rewards our most loyal customers with opportunities to upgrade and redeem miles for travel on the world's largest airline." American began offering reciprocal benefits to AAdvantage and Dividend Miles members in January, one month after the close of the merger (see news, December 2013). aa.com/aadvantage2015 Graham Smith
