CX unveils new “Spirit of Hong Kong” livery

10 Dec 2013 by Clement Huang
Cathay Pacific (CX) has unveiled the third edition of its “Spirit of Hong Kong” livery. The new update marks the climax of the recent “The Spirit of Hong Kong” campaign run by the airline. It is in conjunction with the government's "Hong Kong: Our Home" campaign that "aims to inject positive energy into society, foster social cohesion and promote care, mutual help and solidarity in the community". The new design is printed on one of the carrier’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and features 110 profile figures that represent the winners of “The Spirit of Hong Kong” competition. Launched back in June, the programme called for Hong Kong residents to submit creative art works that illustrated the essence of the city. The unveiling ceremony “Cathay Pacific has been the home carrier of Hong Kong since 1946. For six decades we have been growing together with Hong Kong, supporting the city and its people every step of the way. We will continue to uphold the Hong Kong spirit, support our home, and infuse the city with positive energy as we move forward together,” said CX chief executive John Slosar. Over 5,000 entries were received, with 50 winners selected weekly over the course of a month through public voting. Finally, a separate judging panel selected the 100 top winners and 10 champions. A total of 620 roundtrip tickets have been awarded to the winners for destinations covered by the networks of CX and sister airline Dragonair. To view the winner entries, click here. Rendering of the new livery CX began highlighting the spirit of its home city in 1997, following the handover of Hong Kong to China from Britain. The first livery for one of its aircraft showcased the Hong Kong skyline in celebration of the transfer of sovereignty. The latest rendition has already begun serving destinations, first to Taipei and then to Milan. The aircraft will be integrated with the rest of the fleet and go into the normal service roster. That means you cannot book to fly on this particular aircraft and will only get to experience it by chance. For more information, visit www.cathaypacific.com Clement Huang
