China Airlines launches “Time for Taiwan” A330-300

15 Nov 2013
China Airlines has debuted its “Time for Taiwan” A330-300, carrying cartoons on its livery, cabin interiors and food packaging. The inaugural flight took off on November 13 from Taipei Songshan Airport to Haneda Airport in Tokyo. The aircraft has 30 business and 277 economy seats, and will serve Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and China. Deputy director Liu Hsi Lin of the tourism bureau says that 7.31 million people visited Taiwan in 2012, and more than 5.8 million people visited in the first three quarters of this year. The bureau hopes to attract more than ten million visitors a year by 2016. It is hoped the themed aircraft will help attract the attention of global travellers and raise Taiwan’s profile as a major tourism destination. The aircraft livery portrays specific features of Taiwan's tourism such as ecology, romantic environments, cuisine, shopping and traditional culture. The cabin is fitted with cushions and headrest covers decorated with the tourism bureau's heart-shaped motif. Inserts in the seat pockets help travellers learn the meaning behind the seven hearts: tourism, ecology, romance, food, shopping and culture. On the back of the seat inserts are poster-style visuals with graphics based on Taiwan's island shape. The airline unveiled its first “Love & Hug” B747-400 jet in June, depicting the carrier’s environmentally friendly sentiments (see here).
