The big picture: Airbus fits engines to BA’s first A380

10 Oct 2012 by BusinessTraveller
Airbus has fitted the four Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines onto BA’s first A380 superjumbo, ahead of its delivery scheduled for July next year. The engines were constructed at Roll-Royces’ plant in Derby and transported to the Toulouse headquarters of Airbus by road and ferry, before being fitted to aircraft MSN095. Each engine weighs six tonnes, measures around ten feet in diameter, and produces around 30,000 horsepower. BA is scheduled to take delivery of the first of its 12 superjumbos in July 2013. Business Traveller is attending a BA A380 media trip this week, with the opportunity to see the carrier’s first A380 on its final assembly line. We will report further on the event later this week.
