British flag carrier and London 2012 sponsor BA has been given special permission to fly its Firefly A319 aircraft at 1,000 feet over The Mall on Monday, as part of the Greatest Team Parade celebrating Team GB’s London 2012 achievements. The carrier painted one of it A319s in a special gold livery when it was used to collect the Olympic Torch from Athens earlier this year (see online news May 16), and the aircraft will now take part in next week’s Greatest Team Parade through the capital. Up to 700 British Olympic athletes are expected to take part in the parade, including over 90 per cent of Team GB and Paralympic GB’s medal winners. As part of the parade the Firefly aircraft will lead a fly-past with military aircraft and the Red Arrows over London on Monday September 10, with the plane being given special permission to fly at 1,000 feet over The Mall, displaying a “thank you” message on its underbelly. The aircraft will pass over the Olympic Park, reaching The Mall just after 1540. For more information visit ba.com. Report by Mark Caswell
