Virgin Atlantic’s Clubhouse at Heathrow gets first look at Samsung Galaxy Tab

5 Nov 2010 by Tom Otley
Virgin Atlantic’s Clubhouse at Heathrow will have a batch of Samsung Galaxy Tab for flyers to play on from  this week. The Galaxy Tabs will enable passengers to check emails, browse the web and make calls, though most usefully the tabs will come pre-loaded with movies, music and games. The tablets will also feature Virgin Atlantic’s Clubhouse menus providing details on both the à la carte menu and the mixology drinks service, as well as tips on how to make cocktails. The Galaxy Tabs are picked up from the reception counter in return for a boarding card. There are 8 available: 4 in the Loggia area, 2 in the cinema area, 1 at the bar and 1 in front of the concierge as well as a further 6 units which are held behind the concierge which can be loaned in exchange for your boarding pass. The Clubhouse lounge already has an “Office and Library” area with laptops points (the whole lounge has complimentary wifi) and complimentary laptops for use, but the Tabs have the ability to download or stream films and TV to watch on the 7-inch TFT-LCD display, or a “Readers' Hub” to read books or magazines. Clare Bacchus, Head of Clubhouses commented: “We are very excited to be able to showcase the new Galaxy Tab in our Clubhouse at Heathrow and we're certain it will prove to be very popular with our passengers.” In addition to the Clubhouse promotion, there is a monthly competition to win a Galaxy Tab which will also be promoted in Virgin Atlantic’s  in-flight magazine Seatback for all customers. Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “Our collaboration with Virgin allows us to demo the product in a real-life situation, where people have a genuine need for a portable entertainment device and we’re pleased to be able to give Virgin Clubhouse customers a chance to try before they buy.” The Samsung Galaxy Tab runs the Android operating system and currently costs £499 from PC World Tom Otley
