American Airlines passengers departing on flights from US airports can now double or triple their AAdvantage miles earned on the trip by paying a fee at the airport.
Members will be given the option to purchase bonus miles when checking in for their flight at self-service machines in airports throughout the US, anf those checking in online can still avail of the service by visiting the machines on arrival at the airport.
Passengers will then have the option of purchasing double or triple miles for their flights, at an introductory cost of approximately US$0.03 per mile, excluding seven per cent excise tax. Note that the miles are considered as “bonus miles”, and do not count towartds elite status qualification.
At present the Mileage Multiplier service is only available for purchase from self-service machines in US airports, although AA says it hopes to extend the option to international machines, including those at London Heathrow and Manchester. Until then a UK passenger travelling on a flight between New York and London can still take advantage of the service, but only if they purchase the bonus miles in the US.
