Taj Hotels Palaces Resorts and Safaris has launched a new mobile app in partnership with Proxce who offers “mobile based real-world identity management solution”.

Through the app, guests of Taj receive regular notifications on the hospitality group’s offers and Taj Holidays deals. They can also plan their trips, book any of the 98 Taj properties across 61 locations worldwide, check into properties, start a live chat with Taj’s customer service executives, have keyless access to guest rooms, and manage their Taj InnerCircle accounts.

Chinmai Sharma, the chief revenue officer at Taj Hotels Palaces Resorts Safaris said, “Data accessibility and mobile usage is growing exponentially across the world, especially in growing travel markets like India. Nearly 50 per cent of our guests are now using a mobile device to explore our hotels and destinations somewhere in their purchase path. Online and mobile are our fastest growing channels and we will continue to invest in this area with the goal of creating a consistent guest experience across all platforms. We are grateful to Proxce who have  partnered with us to successfully develop a destination-led and customer-centric app.”

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces will reward Daily Hotel Credit of up to ₹2,000 (excluding taxes) to any guest booking a room through the app. The credits can be “utilised towards, F&B, laundry, SPA and incidentals”. To avail the offer, guests must book before July 31 for stays until September 30.

Asia Miles, a travel and lifestyle rewards programme, which manages Cathay Pacific’s loyalty programme, has partnered with Taj InnerCircle, the loyalty programme of Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces.

Together, the brands have an ongoing Triple Asia Miles promotion valid until June 30, 2017.

To avail the offer, one must register with Asia Miles and Taj InnerCircle, and book a stay through tajhotels.com/en-in/asiamiles. During check-in at any Taj property worldwide, members must share their Asia Miles membership number to earn miles for the stay.

Through the promotion, Asia Miles members will be awarded triple of the usual miles earned for each night, and ten per cent off on the best available room rate at Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces properties.

Each night earns members anywhere from 250 to 500 Asia Miles, depending on the category of the Taj property. These are multiplied by three during the promotion.

The Indian Hotels Company has unveiled its new brand architecture, where it will move its 58 hotels under Vivanta and Gateway to the Taj umbrella. 

It has also added Taj Safaris to its corporate logo, and will now be called Taj Hotels Palaces Resorts Safaris. 

Its Ginger brand has however been excluded from this transition. 

“With this new brand architecture, Taj is going back to its roots. It was a tough decision to move our other brands, but we took a bold step as a master-branding strategy was needed at this stage with global competition catching up,” says Rakesh Sarna, the chief executive officer of The Indian Hotels Company.

Taj and Shangri-La enter into an alliance

Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and India’s Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces have partnered with each other for a broader reach across the world.

Rakesh Sarna, MD and CEO at Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces says, “This is a strategic step in bringing greater synergies amongst two brands known for their legendary hospitality. Over time, our valued guests and loyalty members had shared their desire for a wider selection of world class hotels in key destinations. This alliance will help drive deeper engagement for our most valuable guests and members as they will now be recognized seamlessly at some of the world’s finest hotels across multiple geographies.”  

The alliance will officially launch in March 2017 with Warmer Welcomes, an integration of both groups’ loyalty programmes — Golden Circle and Taj InnerCircle.

Existing members of either of the loyalty programmes will receive benefits of their membership status when they stay at any Shangri-La or Taj hotel worldwide with “top-tier status matching”. They will also be able  to earn and redeem between both programmes.

Specifics of Warmer Welcomes hasn’t been disclosed yet. On getting in touch with the hospitality groups, both said that details will be revealed in March.

Madhu Rao, Shangri-La’s acting president says, “As hotel owner-operators who share similar values and service philosophies but have minimal overlap of properties, Taj and Shangri-La are in a unique position to establish a seamless alliance that goes beyond a marketing partnership or multi-hotel distribution platform. We will be able to enhance brand awareness and increase market share by providing Golden Circle and Taj InnerCircle members more value and more reasons to stay with us.”

Taj and Shangri-La currently operate in 100 hotels in 63 destinations and 116 hotels in 73 destinations respectively. Post March 2017, brands where Warmer Welcomes will be eligible are namely:

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces relaunched its loyalty programme, InnerCircle, in 2015 with more benefits to its members. Some of these include: “an easy redemption process with myriad opportunities ranging from accommodation, restaurants and spas, and no expiry of points for active members”.

This month, InnerCircle has announced its revamped Epicure programme, an extension of Taj InnerCircle. It allows diners to earn and redeem points at more than 250 restaurants, 100 bars and 60 spas across over 80 Taj properties worldwide. Earlier it spas weren’t included in the programme. 

Chinmai Sharma, the chief revenue officer at Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces says, “As part of our constant endeavour to enhance guest experiences, we have redesigned the Epicure programme to make dining more rewarding at some of the most sought after restaurants in the world. Based on insights from our members, the programme has been redesigned to offer a compelling value proposition that goes beyond dining and opens up the world of Taj to our members. We have award winning bars, restaurants and spas in our portfolio offering distinctive experiences and Epicure will serve to showcase these to the new breed of emerging consumers.” 

The new Epicure programme:

  • Extends the 25 per cent earning on dining to include spas as well.
  • Allows members to earn points for a party of any size instead of limiting eligibility to a group of 12 people or under. 
  • Has expanded validity to restaurants, bars and spas worldwide from limiting it to within India.
  • Has extended the complimentary night, from properties at the resident city where the card was purchased, to all hotels in India and Sri Lanka (except Grand Palaces and Safari Lodges).
  • Doesn’t have an expiry date for points so long as members have a valid InnerCircle membership. 
  • Includes members of the Silver tier. 
  • Doesn’t issue paper vouchers anymore; all vouchers are electronically fed into the InnerCircle card.Existing members of the Taj InnerCircle Epicure programme cannot upgrade to the revamped structure. They need to buy a new membership to avail of the benefits.
