InterContinental Hotels Group to debut in Kolkata

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will launch its mid-market brand, Holiday Inn near Kolkata Airport in the last quarter of this year. It will mark IHG’s entry in West Bengal’s capital.

The hospitality group has partnered with city-based real estate developer, Jain Group for the project.

“It is positioned very close to the city airport and is expected to attract travellers in business and leisure segment. We are hopeful to attract tourists in the festive season this year as it is the first hotel from the airport while entering New Town,” says Rishi Jain, the executive director at Jain Group.

He goes on to reveal that the IHG-Jain partnership has led to signing a deal for the launch of two more hotels in the state — in Durgapur and Siliguri. Their opening dates haven’t been confirmed yet.

All 137 rooms and suites at Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport will have an iron and ironing board, black-out shades, minibar, tea/coffee maker, free water bottles, a LCD television, iPod docking station, and a work desk.

For business meets, the property has 605 sqm of banqueting space, a meeting room and a business centre with a printer, scanner and copy machine.

An outdoor pool and a gym are the leisure facilities on the property. Wifi is free for IHG Rewards Club members.

IHG has a strong sales and marketing initiatives utilising both technology as well as people to people contact. With the hotel’s location advantage and marketing initiatives, we are optimistic that there will not be any issues with occupancy,” says Kenneth Scott, general manager at Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is a ten-minute drive to the hotel, and within proximity to one of the IT hubs of Kolkata.

Holiday Inn offers rooms for £20.12 to celebrate Olympics partnership

Travellers can grab rooms at 186 participating Holiday Inn properties for just £20.12 next week, as part of the brand’s partnership with the London 2012 Games.

The promotion will take place between 0001 and 2359 on December 20, for stays at 186 Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express properties throughout the UK between December 26, 2011 and January 31, 2012 (excluding December 31).

Stays at Holiday Inn properties will be on a room-only basis, while those at holiday Inn Express hotels will include breakfast as part of the brand’s standard offering.

Holiday Inn is the official hotel provider to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and will be opening a hotel within the Westfield Stratford City development next to the Olympic Park next year, alongside a property by fellow IHG brand Staybridge Suites (see online news January 11).

Holiday Inn to mark “2012 day”

To celebrate its partnership with the London Olympic Games, Holiday Inn is launching a £20.12 room sale on the 20th day of the 12th month.

The special rate, marking what Holiday Inn calls “2012 day”, will be available between 0001 and 2359 on December 20 only. 171 Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels will participate in the sale, for stays between December 26 and January 9 (excluding December 31).

Holiday Inn is the official hotel provider of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The partnership will see 1,500 free nights given to 50 “emerging and established” British athletes during the games, including swimmer Rebecca Adlington and cyclist Victoria Pendleton.

Other aspects of the partnership include the staffing of Athletes Village in Stratford, and hotel jobs for aspiring athletes “on a flexible basis” to support them as they train and compete.

New and Noted: Club lounge, café and spa

A new Executive Club Lounge at the Sheraton on the Park Sydney is one of many features to have emerged from the recent A$500,000 (US$344,000) refurbishment. Occupying the 21st floor, it offers views of Hyde Park and the city’s Middle Harbour, quiet alcoves for meetings, library, Wi-Fi internet connection, data ports throughout and the latest PCs. Guests staying on the executive floor enjoy perks such as pressing of two items daily and the use of a a private boardroom for up to eight people equipped with a 42-inch plasma TV and necessary AV tools.

Meals provided start with breakfast, continuing throughout the day with free flow of coffee and tea and onto cocktails and tapas in the evening. On weekend, high tea is available.

Bistro on the Mile is Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hongkong’s latest café reincarnation. The 186-seat restaurant lays out a buffet for lunch or dinner featuring a global menu of Chinese, Indian, Thai, Japanese and Continental fare freshly prepared at live-action cooking stations. It’s open daily from 0600 to 0100. On weekends, there is an afternoon tea buffet.

At the ITC Mughal Agra, a 99,000sq ft spa, Kaya Kalp – The Royal Spa is the latest addition to the hotel. Featuring a close synthesis between indoor and outer spaces, the eight-suite facility reflects Mughal architecture and landscaping (as also embodied by the nearby Taj Mahal mausoleum) seen in the use of water channels, fountains, outdoor rain showers, open air courtyards and lush foliage.

Therapies also draw inspiration from the spiritual and medicinal legacies of the Mughal Dynasty such as a legacy of fruit, which is offered in the Pomegranate Aromasoul Massage. Starboard Hotels launches £50 million development programme

Hotel developer
Starboard Hotels will open its first Holiday Inn Express in Burnley this
September, with three more UK hotels to follow over the next two years.

The £7 million
Holiday Inn Express Burnley is located off junction 10 of the M65, close to
Burnley town centre and around 30 minutes’ drive from Manchester city centre. Features
include 102 bedrooms, four air-conditioned meeting rooms, a bar and a café-style
restaurant.

The hotel is the first
of four developments by Starboard, with the next being a 126-room Days Inn
property located by Wetherby racecourse and due to open in February 2009. Two
more Holiday Inn Express hotels are slated for Edgbaston Mill (a mixed-use
development in Birmingham) and Gateshead (adjacent to the city’s Millennium
Bridge) in 2010.

Starboard says it
is working with Intercontinental Hotel Group, Wyndham Worldwide and Hilton
Hotels Corporation to develop a range of branded hotel developments across the
UK.
