Airbnb is adding new categories to its list of available rentals that will better describe vacation homes, B&Bs, boutique hotels and “unique” properties such as treehouse lodgings.

Previously, the “Home type” listings on Airbnb were broken into just three categories: “Shared room”, “Private room”, and “Entire place”. The new categories “will give greater choice of accommodation options to guests, provide greater transparency over the types of accommodation available, and help hosts better showcase what’s unique about them to better match with guests’ preferences,” according to Airbnb.

Airbnb for Work” is a business-travel friendly category in a planned array of “Collections” – offerings sorted by functionality. Airbnb for Work and Airbnb for Family were launched in February 2018, with additional collections for Social stay, Wedding, Honeymoon, Group getaways, and Dinner party, and One-of-a-kind slated for launch later in the year.

The lodging company has previously established a pair of premium categories, Airbnb Plus and Beyond by Airbnb, and plans to launch a guest membership programme later in 2018.

Airbnb Plus consists of an initial 2,000 ‘High quality” homes in 13 cities that have been vetted by an inspector against a 100-point quality checklist; Beyond by Airbnb is a collection of luxury properties.
