Oakwood debuts new brand in Singapore

6 Mar 2017 by Craig Bright

Having ended 2016 with the launch of its new Oakwood Suites brand in Jakarta in December, Oakwood Asia Pacific has just debuted another new concept, the Oakwood Studios, in Singapore. The Oakwood Studios Singapore is, according to the company, “a completely redefined serviced apartment experience”, aimed at catering to travellers who, if not millennials themselves, have a millennial mindset.

Located in the retail and leisure district on Orchard Road in the heart of the city, the property – which includes 98 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments – has been developed to offer design and technology-led accommodation. The aim, according to Oakwood Asia Pacific managing director, Dean Schreiber, is to provide serviced residences that cater to the “dynamic lifestyle needs” of millennial travellers.

“These travellers seek more than just comfort; they thrive on experiences that are memorable and fun, and that is exactly what Oakwood Studios Singapore has to offer,” he said. “We encourage our guests to move furniture, cook in the open kitchen and design their experience with our curated spaces. It really is kissing goodbye to the expected.”

Among these touches are a large number of art pieces curated in collaboration with Lumas gallery, with guestrooms and public spaces featuring artworks from artists including Erwin Blumenfeld, Louise Dahl-Wolfe and Edward Kasper, among others.

A social focus is also emphasised at the property, one that is manifested most directly in its resident’s lounge Socialize, which features an open kitchen and a “mirror video wall” developed in partnership with Samsung. Retreat, an outdoor garden terrace, is also available. Movable furniture is also placed around the property for guests to use and customise for work and meetings, while for recreation a rooftop sky garden and entertainment deck with a pool and gym round out the recreation facilities.

From a technology standpoint, the property offers high-speed wifi, smartphones that act as apartment keys and come with free data and local calls, and in-room tablets for requesting in-house services.

Previously scheduled to launch in December last year, the Oakwood Studios Singapore opened on March 3, 2017 and joins Oakwood’s portfolio of 33 Oakwood-branded properties in 19 cities across Asia.
