Thai hotel management company, Onyx Hospitality Group, has signed its first property in Australia, located in Melbourne city centre. The company will manage the new Shama Luxe Aurora Melbourne Central, a 252-unit serviced apartment complex expected to be completed in the second half of 2019.

Situated in the 92-storey Aurora Melbourne Central mixed-use development, the serviced residences will occupy the 10th to 32nd floors and will have a dedicated street-level entrance, lobby and elevators. Facilities within the hotel itself, meanwhile, will include a restaurant, executive lounge, swimming pool and a fitness centre.

Discussing the new property, Onyx’s president and CEO, Peter Henley, said: “We are thrilled to announce our first property in Australia, and at being offered the opportunity to manage the serviced apartments component of this iconic Melbourne development under our fast-growing Shama brand. We look forward to a successful and long-term partnership with A-HTRUST as we work towards bringing the Shama brand to life in the Australian market.”

Claimed to be the tallest mixed-use development in the Melbourne CBD, Aurora Melbourne Central began construction in October 2015 with an expected completion date in the third quarter of 2019. When finished, the development will comprise residences, serviced apartments, retail options and office space.

The upcoming Shama Luxe adds to Onyx’s existing portfolio of ten Shama properties in Bangkok, Hangzhou, Hong Kong and Shanghai, and joins a further eight properties that are currently under development in locations including China and Malaysia.
