The Zetter Group is to open its fourth UK property, located within a former fire station in Manchester.

The Zetter Hotel at London Rd will be the group’s first property outside of London, joining existing hotels in Clerkenwell and Marylebone, as well as The Grain Store restaurant in King’s Cross.

The Grade II listed London Road Fire Station opened in 1906, and served as a fire station until 1986. The redeveloped building will house the new Zetter hotel, as well as “a world class cocktail bar, spa and co working space”. Planning application is due to be submitted this autumn.

Commenting on the news Michael Benyan, The Zetter Group’s director, said:

“We are delighted to have finally found the perfect opportunity to open a Zetter property in Manchester. London Road is an iconic building and a real gift for us as hoteliers.

“We want to preserve the existing beauty and magic of the building and use it to help create a unique experience for our guests. Allied London should also be applauded for their vision and ambition for the regeneration of the area – it’s an exciting project to be a part of.”

Zetter will partner with interior designers Russell Sage Studios – responsible for projects including previous Zetter hotels, The Goring Hotel’s Royal Suite, and several restaurants by Jason Atherton and Gordon Ramsay.

Developer Allied London is currently involved in a number of Manchester regeneration projects, including the St John’s development, which is located on the site of the city’s former Granada Studios and will feature a 110-room Nadler Hotels property.
