Starwood is to open its first Aloft property in the Australian city of Melbourne.

The 176-room Aloft Melbourne South Yarra is scheduled to open in 2019, and will be located within a new mixed-use development on Chapel Street, home to many of the city’s boutique shops and restaurants.

Facilities will include the brand’s signature Wxyz bar, Recharge fitness centre and Refuel 24-hour grab and go food and beverage area, as well as a rooftop terrace, swimming pool and 300 sqm of meeting space.

The mixed-use development will also feature ground floor retail spaces, conference facilities and 40 “exclusive residences”.

The hotel joins two other Aloft properties currently under development in Perth (due to open in 2017) and Adelaide (2018).

Last year Starwood announced plans for an Aloft hotel on Sydney’s Pitt Street, to open in November 2016, but this property no longer appears on the group’s list of new and upcoming Aloft hotels, and it is understood the property is no longer under development.
