Starwood Hotels & Resorts is launching its Westin and Le Méridien brands in Bahrain. The Westin Bahrain City Centre and Le Méridien Bahrain City Centre both open in July and will be located in central Manama. The Westin property will contain 200 guest rooms, including six executive suites and a presidential suite. It will also feature five dining venues, 600 sqm of event space, a spa, a gym and a swimming pool. The 260 rooms in the Le Méridien hotel will include 18 executive suites and a presidential suite. The property will also contain three dining venues, an all-day dining restaurant, a spa, a gym and over 465 sqm of event and meeting space, including a business centre, ballroom and five meeting rooms. Starwood has signed an agreement with Majid Al Futtaim Properties to launch the hotels. Michael Wale, Starwood's president, Europe, Africa and Middle East, said: "We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with Majid Al Futtaim Properties as we debut our Westin and Le Méridien brands in Bahrain. "We have a long presence in the country, dating back to 1981 when we opened the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel. We look forward to expanding our footprint here with the launch of these two distinct lifestyle brands later this year." In March, Starwood revealed that it expects to open 35 new Sheraton hotels in the next year (see news, March 11). starwoodhotels.com Graham Smith
