Marriott’s Autograph Collection makes UK debut

8 Apr 2013 by ScottCarey7
Marriott International’s the Autograph Collection has entered the UK market by adding Threadneedles in London and The Glasshouse in Edinburgh to its portfolio. The 74-room Threadneedles is located in London’s Square Mile, near to Bank tube station, and is housed within a Grade II listed former Victorian banking hall. The lobby features a hand painted stained-glass dome, dating back to 1856. The hotel also houses Bonds restaurant and bar, serving British cuisine. Open since 2003, the 65-room boutique Glasshouse hotel is located at the foot of Edinburgh’s Calton Hill and features the 150 year old facade of the Lady Glenorchy church. The hotel includes a roof-top garden, to which most guest rooms enjoy direct access.  The hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment and will join the Autograph Collection upon completion in June. Both hotels have meetings and private dining facilities and offer complimentary in-room wifi. Both properties were previously members of the Eton Collection and this follows Marriott’s strategy of incorporating groups of independent hotels in to the Autograph Collection. This includes the previous addition of seven properties in the Kessler Collection in the United States, four AC Hotels properties in Spain in 2011 and six Boscolo hotels in Italy, Budapest and Prague. Amy McPherson, president and managing director for Marriott International in Europe says: “This is an exciting time for the Autograph Collection in Europe as we add experiences in two of the United Kingdom’s most important destinations. Autograph Collection offers an enviable range of artistic, culinary and cultural adventures for our guests and these two iconic hotels will be valuable additions.” The Autograph Collection now consists of over 40 properties throughout the United States, Europe, Caribbean, and South America. Other properties include Fontecruz Lisboa Hotel in Portugal, the Boscolo Budapest Hotel and The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. Launched in 2009, The Autograph Collection is Marriott’s portfolio of “upper upscale and luxury, independent hotels”. The group added its first German property earlier this year with the Hotel am Steinplatz in Berlin (see online news March 6, 2013).
