Air France to operate A380 farewell flight

And sadly for A380 fans Air France will not be having second thoughts.
Today @AeronewsGlobal reports that Air France will be operating an A380 farewell flight on June 26.
More details to follow.
On June 26, @airfrance will perform a special farewell @Airbus A380 flight over France, with employees onboard, to mark the retirement of its 9 superjumbos. jjlasneParticipantIt is very sad to see that the Airbus A380 received very little love and respect from the industry. It is an amazing aircraft, very smooth and comfortable.
I know that its true purpose will become obvious in the near future and that it will return to service on point-to-point where huge loads are required.

alainboy56ParticipantDo not generally fly AF well not recently anyway, however I did fly one time from DXB to CDG on an A380.
I remember on check-in being assigned seat 70L (Seventy) or something, and hesitatingly and quizzingly I reminded the check-in lady that I had a Biz Class ticket, to which she replied that ‘Row 70 is Business Class sir’ — Ha Ha Ha Ha HaSince then have flown on QR’s A380s many, many times – its a comfortable aircraft, but alas economics have caught up with it all too very quickly.
It seems only yesterday that EK were carrying out daily training circuits doing ‘touch and Go’s’ at Al Ain, UAE maybe in 2008, and here we are just 12 years later and its already being retired almost as quickly as the B744 which is a 20 year older previous generation aircraft.
In another 10 years I guess there will be no further ‘4 pot holers’ on pax routes apart from perhaps the later model ones with EK and also BA who tend to use their aircraft until they finally wear out. Also they generally do not put aircraft on the 2nd hand market (not that there is a market for these beasts anyway).

AMcWhirterParticipantHello alainboy56 – Indeed second-hand A380s haven’t found another home with the exception of Hi-Fly.
It acquired one of SIA’s early A380s which had been retired.
Hi-Fly’s A380 was regularly charted to Norwegian to replace the many flights the latter had to cancel for one reason or another.
It recent times that A380 has been ferrying medical supplies from China to Dominican Republic and Montreal (a few days ago).

AMcWhirterParticipantAir France’s final A380 flight is still planned to operate tomorrow (July 26).
It will depart CDG at 1530 local and will circle France for roughly two hours.
The A380 being deployed is only 8.7 years old. Registration: F-HPJH
It’s reported Ben Smith and Anne Rigali will be on board.
There will be no fare paying passengers.
Those onboard will include Air France crew, employees and hand-picked guests.

TominScotlandParticipantSo, since 2020 when this out-of-date news was dated, other airlines have followed suit so not just a French thing – Lufthansa, for example (https://airwaysmag.com/lufthansa-close-a380-chapter/), also Malaysia and Thai with Asiana and JAL also planning the same and Singapore retiring at least 7 of their fleet. So I am not sure what ‘most of the rest of the world’ you are talking about…..

I took your message about deleting the topic and then “look at the date” referred to the fact that it is being used again by spammers.
I don’t recall the name of the one who resurrected it, but today at 13:13 “BpaiUsavelags” attempted to post something. I guess the IT people deleted the spam message before it got to us.
