This USB Flash drive stick comes in a choice of storage capacity sizes – 4, 8 and 16 GB - we tested the 4GB one and had no trouble setting up the password on it protecting the data. The secure drive has four security functions which prevent unauthorised access to the USB drive’s content: premium 256-bit AES hardware encryption, password hashing algorithm, obligatory password entry directive and automatic deletion of all data following 20 failed access attempts.
My main gripe was that there are frequent warnings that you have to close the V-Secure software before unplugging the USB stick. To do this you need to find the small icon on your toolbar and open it to quit the application. If you simply ask the computer to “Safely Remove the mass storage” device, a warning appears from the V-Storage software saying you shouldn’t do this as it might damage the data, and if you press OK it then crashes the software.
The USB stick is retractable, so you don’t need to worry about losing the cap, and a built-in LED light indicates when the drive is in operation and transferring information, which it does with read speeds of up to 11 MB/sec and write speeds of 8 MB/sec. I copied over hundreds of large images which it dealt with swiftly.
