Taiwan and Japan to enter open skies pact

6 Sep 2011

Japan and Taiwan are poised to enter an open-skies agreement on September 22, 2011.

The joint venture aims to liberalise bilateral commercial aviation exchanges, allowing carriers to apply for new scheduled flights and greater frequencies between the two destinations.

The agreement with Taiwan is part of Japan's plans to revive its tourism industry, which suffered since the tsunami and earthquake that hit the nation on March 11. Other efforts include easing visa restrictions for individual Chinese visitors earlier this month (see story here).
