WHERE IS IT? The celebrated milestone that is the 900th ibis hotel is ideally located 10 minutes away from the intriguing city centre of Tangiers. It is also just a brief walk from the city beaches and the coastal road lined with shops, restaurants and cafes. The Ibn Battuta international airport is less than 30 minutes away and the hotel is a mere 100 metres from the railway station. It is also well positioned for the opening of the future Tangier City Mall.

WHAT’S IT LIKE? It is everything you need in a simple, standard package. Ibis has become Europe’s market leading economy hotel chain, and the fourth largest in the world, through providing an international standard of decent services at competitive prices. The lobby is styled with contemporary furnishings and lighting with bold swatches of colour and the Wok and co. restaurant, which the lobby blends into, carries the modern design theme through seamlessly.

ROOM FACILITIES? The rooms are a compact 16.38 square metres but they are innovatively designed to maximise space. A small but adequate open wardrobe is tucked neatly into the corner.  Although not the biggest hotel rooms, they are fully equipped and, due to the efficient design, you don’t feel restricted. There is an internet connection, LCD flatscreen television with local and international channels, an clean en suite bathroom and a large comfortable bed.

BUSINESS AND LEISURE FACILITIES? The hotel is fully wifi-enabled and several venues can hold small-scale meetings. One side of the lobby has a circular sitting room decked out in plush red with a central table. This is a snug place for an informal meet and ideal for using a laptop. Three large screen desktop computers are also free to use in the business corner on the other side of the lobby. The pool is tiny but serves its purpose if a dip is needed to refresh the senses.

RESTAURANT AND BARS: The Wok and co. restaurant offers a decently varied selection of Asian and Italian dishes, all prepared using wok cooking. They also offer customers the chance to choose exactly what to cook, allowing you to create your own recipes on the spot. Ibis has also launched an 8-hour non-stop breakfast concept whereby guests can dine from 4am until noon, so you can always start the day with a decent breakfast. The bar is pleasant and simple with a good range of standard and premium drinks.

VERDICT A well situated, clean, smart and economical option.
