Morocco has banned incoming and outbound flights between the country and the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, following concerns over rising rates of Covid-19.

The UK government has updated its foreign travel advice for Morocco, stating:

“The Moroccan Government has announced the suspension for an unspecified period of direct flights between Morocco and the UK (and Germany and The Netherlands) with effect from midnight October 20.

“Travellers affected by flight cancellations should contact their airline or tour operator for advice on alternative routes via third countries (eg: France, Spain) where flights are operating as normal.”

The country’s national carrier Royal Air Maroc has also updated its website with the following advice:

“Following the decision of the Moroccan authorities, all flights from Morocco to United Kingdom, Germany and Netherlands are suspended until further notice.

“For this purpose, Royal Air Maroc supports its passengers by authorising the change and reimbursement under the following conditions:

“Ticket Change: unlimited changes of ticket date and destination, free of charge until December 15,2021 to the same or another destination;

“Voucher Refund: refund by nominal voucher valid 12 months from the date of its issue. The voucher is refundable in cash on the expiry date.

“Cash Refund for tickets is possible only at the same point of sale that issued the original ticket”

Earlier this month Morocco also moved to suspend flights to and from Russia.

According to the BBC “Latest figures from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said that Morocco’s weekly rate of reported coronavirus cases on October 14 stood at 10.4 per 100,000 people, compared with 445.5 per 100,000 people in the UK”.

The BBC also reports that Easyjet has cancelled its outbound flights from the UK, Germany and Netherlands to Morocco until November 30.
