Disneyland Hotel

WHAT’S IT LIKE?
The Hongkong Disneyland Hotel is one of two hotels (Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is the other) on the park grounds. Many perceive Disneyland only as a place for fun and play – at this Disney-branded hotel, there are not only child-friendly facilities but also plenty of options for business meetings and functions. The hotel, which is Victorian-style, also offers a well-equipped business centre.

WHERE IS IT? On Lantau Island bordered by the South China Sea, 10 minutes by car from the airport and 30 minutes by MTR from Central via the Tung Chung-Sunny Bay line. Upon reaching the Sunny Bay Station, it is easy to spot the Disneyland-bound train that is specially fitted with windows in the ever-so-familiar silhouette of Mickey Mouse. From the themed park, resort shuttle is available between the two hotels and the Disneyland Resort Public Transport Interchange.

Garden View Room

ROOM FACILITIES Each of the 400 guestrooms is equipped with a flat-screen LCD TV, high-speed wired internet, iron and ironing board among others. My Garden View Room (pictured) – the entry-level room category – boasts a balcony, two double beds (king-size is also available) and Victorian-style furniture with design hints taken from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There is a large bathroom with Disney-themed amenities, a magnifying mirror and a strong water jet showerhead that indulges you in a little massage therapy. If you cannot find the handy box of tissue paper in your room, it is probably fixed on the cupboard below the sink in the bathroom.

Guests staying on the Kingdom Club Floors have exclusive access to a lounge for buffet breakfast, afternoon tea, refreshments and evening cocktails.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS The flower-themed Crystal Lotus restaurant features Chinese dishes from Sichuan, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong as well as dim sum, while the Grand Salon offers continental breakfast and high tea as well as live music in the evenings.

An international buffet is served at the Enchanted Garden Restaurant, where your little ones can dine with Disney characters. Some of the recommended dishes are Mickey’s walnut and chicken puffs and Little Pig’s barbecued pork buns, which taste as good as they look for the young at heart.

Sea Breeze Bar serves mocktails and snacks by the poolside, while Sorcerer’s Lounge is for continental breakfast, high tea and snacks – try the delicious Malaysian satay kebabs.

BUSINESS AND MEETING FACILITIES The Hongkong Disneyland targets corporate and incentive groups, offering an extensive 1,500sqm of indoor event space. There are three main ballrooms – Cinderella (the largest at 876sqm and free of pillars), Sleeping Beauty and Snow White which can be configured into 14 meeting and function rooms, with a capacity of up to 800 people for cocktails – as well as King Stefan and Prince Charming. A business centre is located on the first floor adjacent to the conference site. Open-air spaces are available for outdoor teambuilding activities and other options.

LEISURE FACILITIES The Victorian Spa comprises 10 single treatment rooms and three double rooms, a Victorian-style indoor swimming pool and changing rooms with whirlpools, steam rooms and sauna. The spa offers everything from facials, massages and body wraps to teeth whitening and manicure/pedicure. There are two tennis courts, a fitness centre, an outdoor pool and Mickey’s Maze. If time permits, take a stroll in the gardens and along the rocky coast.

VERDICT The staff were cheerful, attentive and well trained; and the chambermaids were very punctual in their cleaning of rooms and laundry service. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.
