World’s largest JW Marriott hotel opens in Indianapolis

7 Feb 2011 by BusinessTraveller
Marriott has opened its largest JW property to date, part of a huge complex in Indianapolis comprising five Marriott hotels and a total of 2,248 rooms. The opening of JW Marriott Indianapolis Downtown completes the US$450 million Marriott Place Indianapolis development, which connects the Courtyard by Marriott Indianapolis Downtown, SpringHill Suites by Marriott Indianapolis Downtown, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Indianapolis Downtown, the Marriott Indianapolis Downtown, and the new JW property, to the newly renovated and expanded Indiana Convention Centre. The JW Marriott property alone features 1,005 rooms, and is the tallest hotel in the state of Indiana at 34 stories. Facilities include two restaurants – Italian restaurant Osteria Pronto, and High Velocity, “a high-adrenaline sports bar offering well-crafted food offerings, a diverse beer selection, and custom cocktails”. The hotel also houses 104,000 square feet of events space, including 54 meetings and a 40,500 square foot Grand Ballroom. When added to the facilities within the attached Indiana Convention Centre, and the existing 622-room Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, the complex offers a total of 2,248 rooms, and nearly 150,000 square feet of events space. Indianapolis is set to stage the NFL Super Bowl for the first time next year, having opened the 70,000 capacity Lucas Oil Stadium in 2008. There are currently no direct flights between London and Indianapolis, although BA offers connecting flights with United and Continental via Chicago.
