IAG’s CEO Willie Walsh has been awarded the Order of Isabella the Catholic along with chairman Antonio Vazquez, in recognition of “the successful completion of the British Airways-Iberia merger”.
Both Walsh and Vazquez have received the Ecomienda de Numero (Commander by Number) grade of the order, awarded by King Juan Carlos I and presented by Carles Casajuana, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain.
Receiving the order at the Spanish Embassy in London, Walsh said it was a “tremendous honour which I accept not only on a personal level but also on behalf of everyone who has worked so hard to make the merger a reality”.
The order recognises individuals for their extraordinary civil actions that benefit the Spanish nation or make a significant contribution in promoting friendly relations and cooperation between Spain and the rest of the international community.
