Starwood’s W Hotels brand is to open a property in the Santa Fe business district of Mexico City, joining the group’s existing W hotel in the Polanco area of the capital.

W Santa Fe is due to open in 2014, and will be located within the mixed-use Liberty Plaza development, with views of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes.

The hotel will feature 132 rooms, “several destination bar and restaurant options”, a pool with decking and outdoor bar, a 4,000square foot spa, fitness centre and nearly 8,000 square feet of events space.

There will also be a centrepiece staircase sculpture in the property’s multi-storey lobby, designed by Mexico-based Edmonds International and New York-based KrauseSawyer.

The development will be located around 20 minutes from Toluca airport, the city’s second airport after Mexico City Internartional, and a hub for Mexican low-cost carriers Interjet and Volaris.

W Hotel’s first property in Mexico City opened seven years ago in the trendy Polanco district of the city. Starwood also has established Sheraton, St Regis and Westin hotels in the Mexican capital.

W recently opened its first UK hotel in London's Leicester Square - for more information on the property click here. Business Traveller will be publishing a full review of the property in the May 2011 print edition.
