Vueling to launch Cardiff-Malaga route

26 Sep 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Vueling is to add a new route from Cardiff to Malaga next April, following the introduction earlier this year of summer services to Alicante, Barcelona and Palma from the Welsh capital.

The Spanish carrier will fly between the two cities on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from April 2, 2013, using Airbus A320 aircraft.

It’s the fourth Cardiff service for the Spanish low-cost carrier, with summer flights launched earlier this year to Alicante, Barcelona and Palma.

Alicante and Barcelona will both be re-introduced for the summer 2013 season, but the future of Vueling’s Cardiff-Palma service in uncertain, with the BBC reporting that the route is “under review”.

CEO Alex Cruz said that Vueling had been “delighted with the success of our Cardiff routes”, adding that the introduction of the Malaga service “underlines our faith in this regional airport and further demonstrates our commitment to deliver low fares in the UK beyond London”.

The news follows Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones’s commitment to “rebrand and refresh the airport in time for the 2013 summer season”.
