Virgin has officially opened its new airside Clubhouse at Pier A within New York JFK's Terminal 4, replacing its previous landside offering.
The 930sqm facility features an “Understatedly Uptown, Unmistakably New York” theme, with “cascading, shimmering golden ceilings of lighting, and soft, decadent textures”, a cloud-shaped cocktail bar enclosed by a “curving ‘wall’ of stainless steel rods and walnut fins”, and a red ball sofa in the entertainment zone.
Guests can choose between informal dining anywhere in the lounge, or an a la carte brasserie area. Menus include pork sliders, caramelised apples, old school tin baked steak and Brooklyn Ale pie, with cocktails and microbrewery ales from the bar.
Other facilities include an internet bar, spa and hairdressing services by Bumble and Bumble, and “person sized round cavities” lined with wool allowing passengers to rest in the relaxation areas.
Virgin is also due to unveil an “enhanced” Upper Class seat this spring, which will debut on the carrier’s London-New York route (see online news February 6). The carrier has also launched a new Upper Class meal service, with new features including champagne coupe glasses, Graze menus and cake stands (see online news February 29).
