Virgin Trains has unveiled the first of its refurbished trains operating on the East Coast route.
Two of the group’s fleet of 45 trains have now been refreshed with red cloth seats in standard class, and black leather seats in first class.
Carpets and fittings are also being replaced, as well as new diesel engines being fitted and train exteriors being rebranded, as part of a £40 million investment programme (see news November 24, 2015).
Virgin Trains says it aims to complete the refurbishment programme by the end of the year.
The refit is an interim measure until the group starts to take delivery of new Hitachi rolling stock from 2018.
