Virgin to open New York Newark Clubhouse

24 Jul 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Virgin is to open a new Clubhouse at New York Newark in October, replacing the carrier's existing Clubhouse at the airport

The New York Newark Clubhouse will be located after security in Terminal B, and is being designed by the same creative team as the JFK facility (for a review of this lounge click here).

Virgin has yet to release specifics about the Newark lounge features, but says that the space will be larger and closer to the gate than the carrier's existing Newark Clubhouse, and will feature a downtown Manhattan theme, with a “personalised food service” which will “offer Upper Class passengers a local community experience with the opportunity to indulge in locally-sourced produce”.

The move follows the unveiling of rival carrier BA's new Galleries lounge at Newark earlier this year (click here for a review).

Virgin says that the lounge will mark the end of a £100 million investment in its Upper Class product, which has seen the launch of a revamped seat and cabin on its new A330 aircraft (for a review click here), a new Upper Class dining offering (see online news February 29), and the new Clubhouse at JFK.

The carrier flies twice-daily between London Heathrow and New York Newark, and three times-daily to New York JFK, with a fourth daily service starting on October 28 (see online news May 11).
