23 Nov 2009 by Mark Caswell

Virgin has unveiled its new Clubhouse facilities at Gatwick’s South Terminal, with features including a new Cowshed Spa, restaurant, and entertainment area with Wii games consoles.

The refurbished lounge has seating fopr 130 passengers, and now features a new “light, private corridor” leading to the reception and concierge area, where passengers can leave coats and baggage, as well as charge mobile phones and PDAs, or have their shoes shined.

The lounge and dining areas include designer furniture by Pearson Lloyd, Roberto Romanello, George Nelson, Arne Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen and Stefano Gallizioli among others. There is a waiter-serviced restaurant, and an oak and granite-clad bar featuring Harry Bertoia Wire bar stools.

The new Cowshed Spa features a treatment area and shower facilities, with natural stone mosaic floors and black glass mosaic-tiled walls, and sits alongside an internal rock garden with natural daylight and Cole and Son wallpaper.

There is a new Entertainment Lounge and Business Area, including the “Internet Forest”, and a section featuring Wii games consoles, while the Family Lounge has toys, games and a TV for younger children.

The Snug TV and movies area features a smoked black mirror wall cladding, and a “gallery of inspirational artwork curated by jottaContemporary, who identify young and emerging artists from the creative community jotta.com”.

Virgin said the new Clubhouse also supported the carrier’s sustainability targets, with FSC timber flooring,  and 100 per cent woollen carpets specified with low chemical emissions.
