The Virgin Group has announced its first property under the Virgin Hotel brand. According to US media reports the group has purchased the Old Dearborn Bank Building in Chicago, with plans to open a 250-room hotel in 2013.
Virgin announced the launch of its four-star hotel brand in September 2010 (see online news September 23, 2010), but until now no specific details have been released about locations or properties.
The Chicago Tribune reports that the Virgin Group has purchased the Old Dearborn Bank Building, a 27-storey Art Deco building located at 203 North Wabash Avenue in the Loop community area of the city. The building was designated a landmark of Chicago in 2003.
Virgin plans to convert the property into a 250-room hotel, “with restaurants, lounges and other public areas”. According to the report the hotel is slated to open in autumn 2013.
