Virgin and Transaero agree codeshare deal

24 Aug 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Virgin Atlantic has agreed a codeshare deal with Russian carrier Transaero on flights between Heathrow and Moscow.

As part of the deal, Transaero will also codeshare on Virgin’s flights from Heathrow to Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco plus its Gatwick-Orlando services. Transaero flies from Moscow to Heathrow twice a day.

Julie Southern, Virgin’s chief commercial officer, said: “We are excited to announce the signing of new codesharing agreement with Transaero. Our passengers will be able to take the advantage of this new partnership and we are ready to welcome Transaero’s passengers on our flights.”

Last month Sir Richard Branson announced plans for Virgin to start its own flights to Moscow next year (see online news July 9).

Heathrow to Moscow is included in the 12 slots being given up by British Airways following its purchase of Bmi – Virgin is bidding for all of these slots with a decision due to be announced in December.

Virgin has also extended its codeshare agreement with US Airways to include the American airline’s Heathrow-Philadelphia flights. The deal will allow Virgin to offer US Airways domestic services from Boston to cities such as Pittsburgh and Buffalo.
